Meet the Creator

Aundrea Tabbs-Smith was born in Detroit, Michigan and raised in White Plains, NY. She currently lives in Fairfield County, CT with her husband and two children.  Smith is a graduate of the Ursuline School in New Rochelle, NY (2001) and obtained her bachelor's in Early/Elementary Education from Temple University (Jan. 2006).  Aundrea later went on to receive her Masters in Special Education from Bank Street College of Ed. (2009) in Manhattan.  

 

Aundrea was a classroom teacher for twelve years.  teaching 1st, 3rd, and 4th grade in an independent school in Westchester County, NY.  During her time there, Aundrea served as the Lower School Diversity Coordinator (2011-2013 and 2015-2017). and co-created a mentorship program for girls of color (UPLIFT). The program benefits students in lower, middle, and upper school - the first program to ever span all three divisions at the school. UPLIFT seeks to support girl students in navigating their gender as it intersects with their race and/or ethnicity.

 

Currently, Aundrea is Site Director for Friends Center for Children in New Haven, CT and an educational consultant who supports teachers as they revamp their classroom libraries and restructure curriculum so that Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPoC) are celebrated and centered.
